Three cheaper pairs: the same marathon battery, deeper quiet, or the lightest fit.

The model the Momentum 5 replaces still matches it on battery: SoundGuys measured around 56 hours with noise canceling on. Its sound is spacious and detailed. It is weaker on low rumble and on calls in noise, and SoundGuys found the newer model's quiet improved.
What Hi-Fi still recommends it for engaging sound, strong noise canceling and great calls. Tom's Guide liked the light fit but found the pads trap heat. Like the Momentum 5, it lies flat rather than folding up.
SoundGuys found it light enough to wear for hours, with better noise canceling than before and good sound. T3 called it supremely comfortable for travel. It feels plasticky, and Bose rates the battery at only 24 hours.
Final recommendation: Take the Momentum 4 if you love the Sennheiser sound and long battery and can skip the newest tweaks. Pick the Sony WH-1000XM5 for top-tier quiet on trips. The Bose QuietComfort suits anyone who wants the lightest, most packable pair. Buy the Momentum 5 for the best sound here and a battery you can swap later.

For sound and noise canceling, a modest one. Battery life is about the same. The Momentum 5 adds a replaceable battery, and SoundGuys found its noise canceling improved.
Not quite. What Hi-Fi found harsh sounds still get through in busy places. Reviewers rank the XM5 and the Bose QuietComfort among the quietest pairs you can buy.
Yes. SoundGuys notes it plays over USB-C and over the included analog cable, which plugs into a smaller 2.5 mm socket on the headphones.
