Questions people ask

Which cheap earbuds stand in for the most flagships?

The Sony WF-C710N, for seven of the eight here. It keeps Sony's app, claims slightly more battery than most flagships and costs a fraction. Its noise cancelling lets more voices through.

Are EarFun and Nothing earbuds a sensible swap for AirPods?

For Android users especially. Both support extra Bluetooth codecs for better sound on Android. On an iPhone they work fine, but without Apple's pairing pop-up and Find My.

Do cheaper earbuds have worse microphones?

Often, in wind and traffic. Clear outdoor calls are one of the things the XM5 and XM6 keep over every swap. Indoors, the gap matters far less.

How we reached this

This page gathers our 8 alternatives guides for this type of product. Each pick there is backed by at least two independent expert reviews and the maker's specs; price gaps come from prices seen at named shops other than Amazon.

We haven't tested these products ourselves. Our picks weigh independent expert reviews against each maker's published specs and the prices we checked. Opinions are ours; facts link to where they come from. How we choose.
