A fifth off last year. Now replaced by the Forerunner 170, it should go lower.
HappenedBlack Friday 2025
A fair cut at Amazon, reported on 28 November.
ForecastBlack Friday 2026
Likely a big drop
- The Forerunner 170 arrived in May 2026, so the 165 is outgoing stock
- The older Forerunner 265 fell a third last year: age drives the deeper cuts
Should you wait for Black Friday?
Yes. A replaced entry-level Garmin is exactly what stores discount in November. It's still a great first running watch with an AMOLED screen.
The cheaper picks: what they really did
The percentages are real Black Friday 2025 cuts, as reported that week. The right column is our 2026 forecast.
Fitbit Versa 4
Out since 2022
−40%Likely a big drop
Built-in GPS and Fitbit's sleep tracking; fewer running tools.
Fitbit Inspire 3
Out since 2022
−30%Likely a moderate drop
Steps, heart rate and sleep on a slim band; no GPS of its own.
What this means: For runners, the 165 is the pick. The Versa 4 fell twice as far but coaches less.

Questions people ask
Forerunner 165 or Forerunner 170?
The 170 is newer. The 165 still has the AMOLED screen, GPS and training plans, so a deep cut makes it a smart buy.
Is the Forerunner 165 Music worth it?
Only if you want to run with music and leave your phone at home. Otherwise the standard 165 is the same watch.
Does the Forerunner 165 work with an iPhone?
Yes, through the Garmin Connect app on iPhone or Android.
How we reached this
Last year's cuts are the ones named outlets reported during Black Friday week 2025, against the regular price they quoted. The forecast is our reading of each model's age, its successors and last year's cuts. We never show prices.
We haven't tested these products ourselves. Our picks weigh independent expert reviews against each maker's published specs and the prices we checked. Opinions are ours; facts link to where they come from. How we choose.
